Etymology and other trivia:
  • Kimeruler is a portmanteau of kimeru (Japanese for "to decide") and ruler.
  • The kanji for Umegumi roughly read, "burial squad."
  • Yurushimasenjo, Yurushimasenshi, and Yurushimasennin are puns on the Japanese phrase yurushimasen (lit. "I will not permit this."/"This is unpermittable."). Shima is also how the Japanese word for "stripe" is pronounced, hence the monsters' striped clothing.
  • The term used for MASAKI's Samurai Commander (jishou) is a homophone for another Japanese word meaning "self-proclaimed."
  • Mundane Rabbit in Tears Over the Moon (Tsukinami no Usagi) is a pun on the Japanese idiom tsukinami (used to refer to something commonplace or mundane). Here, it's simply written with the kanji for "moon" and "tears." It's also a reference to the moon rabbit from Japanese folklore who lives on the Moon.
  • Ojigips is a portmanteau of ojigi (Japanese for "bowing") and Gips (from the German word for "plaster", used in Japanese as shorthand for "plaster cast").
  • Royal Demons Invasion is named after the British Invasion— a cultural phenomenon of the mid-1960s, when rock and pop music acts from the United Kingdom and other aspects of British culture became popular in the United States and significant to the rising "counterculture" on both sides of the Atlantic.
  • Death Voice may be a reference to the death growl—a vocal style (an extended vocal technique) usually employed by death metal singers.
  • Punk is named after punk rock.
  • The term used to describe Followl in Japanese (soumei) is a pun on the fact the Japanese word for "wise" is written using a kanji that means "bright." Here, that kanji (mei) has been replaced with the one meaning "dark." (In effect, it's like calling someone "endarkened" instead of "enlightened" metaphorically.)
  • Garium may come from the Japanese term for "hungry wolf" (garou).
  • A groupie is a person, especially a young woman, who regularly follows a pop music group or other celebrity in the hope of meeting or getting to know them.
  • Folderblitz is possibly based on a folding guitar.
  • Bellissist may be a portmanteau of bellissima (Italian for "beautiful") and bassist.
  • Amusie means "amusia" in French, a musical disorder which results in tone deafness, and a reference to Romin's own tone deafness in the anime.
  • Psy-Stage may also be meant to sound similar to Cystage, referring to this monster's cyberpunk theme.
  • Catchy-Boardist is supposed to be a portmanteau of catchy and keyboardist.
  • Howlingbird is a corruption of hummingbird.
  • Elechic is a portmanteau of ereki (a Japanese abbreviation for both "electricity" and "electric guitar") and psychic. An ampoule is a small sealed glass capsule for containing a liquid, and the "amp" part refers to the process of re-amping a guitar.

2020.09.18 22:46 The_Wiseweasel Need some help with new Snapraid config

Hi all, I am in need of help with my Snapraid implementation.
I moved from an old Drobo to a JBOD setup that has been extremely performant. I have been very happy with everything up until I tried to add Snapraid to my solution.
Every time I try to run the initial Snapraid Sync, it runs for a while (percent complete varies each time) but then the Parity drive (and all other drives in the external array) goes offline and the sync terminates with errors relating to I/O errors accessing the parity drive.
When I explore the errors in DMESG I get the errors below followed by thousands of device unavailable messages.
[Sep18 13:14] xhci_hcd 0000:39:00.0: xHCI host controller not responding, assume dead
[ +0.000099] xhci_hcd 0000:39:00.0: HC died; cleaning up
[ +0.000064] usb 3-1: USB disconnect, device number 2
[ +0.000003] usb 3-1.3: USB disconnect, device number 3
[ +0.100116] usb 4-1: USB disconnect, device number 2
[ +0.000003] usb 4-1.2: USB disconnect, device number 3

When the above occurs, all of the drives are no longer mounted, and are not visible without resetting the connection between the PC and the Storage array. I assume this is because when I remove and replace the Thunderbolt connection it resets the Host Controller status.
I have 3 possible scenarios in my head that could be causing this issue.
  1. Mobius Pro 5c is faulty/poor design.
    1. I say this because all disks in the array go offline, and after some research I see 2 reviews on Amazon that state a similar issue when reading/writing to multiple disks concurrently. I have reached out to the HW manufacturer as well.
  2. Snapraid not compatible with this setup
    1. I understand that Snapraid doesn't "recommend" Disks be connected via USB. However this isn't just a simple USB setup. It is a very high performing Thunderbolt (USB-C) configuration to a SATA array.
    2. It appears not to be a Snapraid issue, just that triggers an OS/HW fault that takes the Host Controller offline.
  3. Snapraid configuration issue/bug
    1. This is my first time using snapraid, so I could've botched something I suppose... but it seems unlikely based on these results/errors.
Other possible scenario:
  1. Intel NUC HW issue
    1. I really don't think this is the issue, but unless there is a bug in Ubuntu, or one of the items above are the culprit, I dont see what else it could be.
My current setup:
Ubuntu Bionic 18.04 LTS Intel NUC 7i5BNH Mobius Pro 5c/Thunderbolt 3 5 bay enclosure Thunderbolt 3 between Mobius and Server Data array configured with mergerfs Latest BIOS/FW on the NUC
Drives: SDB: 8TB Seagate Ironwolf NAS (parity) SDC: 8TB Toshiba N300 SDD: 2TB Seagate SDE: 2TB WD Green SDF: 1TB Seagate

Any thoughts?

Read More: https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2018/04/25/1487001/0/en/Oil-Storage-Market-worth-over-1-2-billion-cubic-meters-by-2024-Global-Market-Insights-Inc.html
Global Oil Storage Market is anticipated to exceed 1.2 billion cubic meters by 2024, as reported in the latest study by Global Market Insights, Inc. Volatile crude oil prices along with increasing O&G production from geopolitically unstable countries including Iran, Libya and Nigeria will stimulate the market size. For instance, Iran’s crude production in 2018 has risen by 1 % from 2017 and is approaching a nine-year high. The continued mismatch between supply and demand resulting in a global hydrocarbon surplus will further favour the business scenario of oil storage market.

https://preview.redd.it/3f5kbbwgxrn51.jpg?width=5472&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cabb0c175cdba398f1f1ac031064909df7b6e0e4

Oh, and by the way .dark-mode is toggled using JS and signifies dark mode styling for the page.

Oh, and by the way .dark-mode is toggled using JS and signifies dark mode styling for the page.

2020.09.17 00:22 Cocaine-Coffee New(ish) Intern: I feel so dumb right now

Hey all,
2 months into Intern year now and I honestly feel like Im becoming more stupid. All the knowledge I had (or maybe still have) is not translating over well in patient care. Like I am so used to seeing patients in the form of a question with multiple choices that it is hard to pick up on what is going on right in front of me and decide what to do.
I feel that I am getting better at the algorithmic nature of residency I guess (i.e, patient has a White count - order UA, check CXR, etc), but with that I honestly just feel like a trained monkey. I feel like I am just gathering data at this point and somewhat depending on someone else to use their brain.
How do I gain knowledge/confidence guys!?

Thanks

2020.09.14 16:53 ferrykipkerrie Multiple subpages in one property: simply segments or multiple data views?

Hi! For a client of ours I’m looking for an alternative setup for their current tracking organization. We would like to consolidate things into one Analytics property, but I’m not sure whether we should simply use segments in one (Master) data view or use multiple, separate data views within one property. Some extra info: • It’s a big company with one main brand and multiple (20+) sub-brands on the same domain, so brand.com, brand.com/subbrand1, brand.com/subbrand2 • Currently we have separate properties for the overall site and each brand, each with 3 data views (Master, Test and Unfiltered), all within one account. So brand.com (all pages) is UA-123XXX-1, brand.com/subbrand1 is UA-123XXX-2, etc. • For now we’re not looking to replace this setup, but in the future we might phase it out because we mostly use the main property (with all pages) anyway for analyzing, goal tracking and dashboarding. Any idea whether segments or data views are better and why? Thanks for your help!

2020.09.14 08:58 santinnn2 How to import .pdf as .xls? (Power Query)

Hello!
I am working with pdf files containing text and tables. Unfortunately, when using Power Query, I get huge tables with a lot of 'null' values. And some lines and columns are shifted when I switch to a similar report for a different date.
However, if I first convert the pdf file to the Excel format, then I get a file that can be pulled up perfectly through PQ. I get a small and nice table.
Is it possible to use the advanced PQ editor and the web link to the pdf file to access the data of this file but only after some auto converting it to the .xls format? By default, when you try to open .pdf as .xls via PQ, it gives an error.
Example file link if needed (but its ukraine lang): http://od.ukrstat.gov.ua/expres/0920/100.pdf
English is not my native language. Thank you for understanding and help.

2020.09.13 04:39 jmorgannz Supplement plan tracking apps

Hey all,
Wondering if anyone has used any supplement tracking apps and can recommend any?I change things up reasonably often - so it is critically important to log when things change - so that if I start to get positive/negative I can correlate.
Doing this manually has led me to some major insights I would have otherwised missed over the last year.
To date I have been logging any med changes in my diary app (Daylio), and tagging it with the tag "#Meds"
This gets all interposed with my diary entries (where I log physical and mood effects as well as everything else)
I then have to go back through my diary periodically and transpose the meds changes into an excel spreadsheet so I can get a clear view of what has changed and when.
When I get too depressed or fatigued, this falls by the wayside and backs up - adding to my anxiety - as has done right now, me being four months behind!
So - anyone know any apps that can make this easier?I hear Cronometer can do something like it - but is there anything more specific?
Would be great just to log my treatment schedules directly into an Android app instead of my diary app.
I wish I had the time and energy to write my own app to do it. I know how, I just struggle with depression and fatigue enough as it is.
Here's some things it could/should do:
For reference, here's a page out of my spreadsheet that I use at the moment:

Any help much appreciated!

2020.09.13 01:33 cwiltshire (Repost from Libre Space Forum) Looking for satellite observations in UHF frequency outside of 420-450MHz

LINK TO ORIGINAL POST OFF LIBRE SPACE FORUM: https://community.libre.space/t/looking-for-satellite-observations-in-uhf-frequency-outside-of-420-450mhz/6700 Hello everyone,
I am relatively inexperienced when it comes to sorting through the SatNOGS observations page. I figured it would be a good idea to start this discussion in the observations tab in case someone can help me.
I am part of a cubesat startup called UA Space and I am walking through the steps of filing for a frequency assignment. With our current satellite design, I am not sure that we will qualify with the IARU to use amateur radio frequencies in the UHF band for our satellite project (435-438MHz range) since we are not planning to add a transponder to our satellite. I was expecting to still go through the route of filing with IARU since the SatNOGS network has so many satellites and ground stations tuned to that range, but after reading through some forum posts (one linked below), Cubesat 101 (pages 44-48), and not hearing back from some contacts I had found in IARU, I am investigating just filing for an experimental license using special temporary authority (STA) using the UHF band (401 and 406 MHz based on the page 28 in the FCC Online Table of Frequency Allocations).
I am trying to find ground stations and satellites that might have used the UHF band outside of the amateur band, because we want to increase our chances of making observations by having multiple ground stations capable of receiving in this range. If anyone can provide some guidance or feedback on this approach, that would be very much appreciated. I hoping that someone might have already had a similar discussion in another post and that you could redirect me to it.
Thanks, Chet Wiltshire KO4AFB Command and Data Handling Team Lead uaspace.ua.edu

2020.09.12 04:05 passhot 2020 SIP technology introduction

2020 SIP technology introduction
SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) is a multimedia communication protocol formulated by IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force).

https://preview.redd.it/vcmqwjg8kmm51.jpg?width=1040&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7caf2e8713f6d7638f298a893e4d6217ee24eff7
It is an application layer control protocol for multimedia communication on an IP network. It is used to create, modify and terminate the session process of one or more participants. SIP is an IP voice session control protocol derived from the Internet, which is flexible, easy to implement, and easy to expand.
SIP interoperates with the Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP) responsible for voice quality. It also collaborates with several other protocols, including Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) for location, Remote Authentication Dial-in User Service (RADIUS) for authentication, and RTP for real-time transmission.
With the advancement of computer science and technology, the IP data network based on packet switching technology has replaced the core position of the traditional telephone network based on circuit switching in the field of communication with its convenience and low cost. The SIP protocol, as an application layer signaling control protocol, provides complete session creation and session modification services for a variety of instant messaging services. Therefore, the security of the SIP protocol plays a vital role in the security of instant messaging.
SIP appeared in the mid-1990s and originated from the research of Henning Schulzrinne and his research team in the Computer Department of Columbia University. In 1996, he submitted a draft to the IETF, which contained important content of SIP. In 1999, Shulzrinne deleted irrelevant content related to media content in the new standard submitted. Subsequently, the IETF released the first SIP specification, RFC 2543.
The SIP protocol is a protocol under development and continuous research. On the one hand, it draws on the design ideas of other Internet standards and protocols, follows the principles of simplicity, openness, compatibility, and scalability that the Internet has always adhered to in style, and fully pays attention to the security issues in the open and complex network environment of the Internet.
On the other hand, it has also fully considered the support for various services of the traditional public telephone network, including IN services and ISDN services. Use SIP invitation messages with session descriptions to create sessions so that participants can negotiate media types through SIP interactions. It requests the user's current location through proxy and redirection to support user mobility. Users can also register their current location. The SIP protocol is independent of other conference control protocols. It is designed to be independent of the underlying transport layer protocol, so it can expand other additional functions flexibly and conveniently.
SIP sessions use up to four main components: SIP user agent, SIP registration server, SIP proxy server, and SIP redirect server.
These systems complete SIP sessions by transmitting messages that include the SDP protocol.
1. User agent
SIP User Agent (UA) is an end-user device, such as mobile phones, multimedia handheld devices, PCs, PDAs, etc., used to create and manage SIP sessions. The user agent client sends a message. The user agent server responds to the message.
2. Register the server
The SIP registration server is a database containing the locations of all user agents in the domain. In SIP communication, these servers will retrieve each other's IP address and other related information and send them to the SIP proxy server.
3. Proxy server
The SIP proxy server accepts the SIPUA session request and queries the SIP registration server to obtain the address information of the recipient UA. Then, it forwards the session invitation information directly to the recipient UA (if it is in the same domain) or proxy server (if the UA is in another domain). The main functions are: routing, authentication, billing monitoring, call control, service provision, etc.
4. Redirect server
The SIP redirect server maps the destination address in the request to zero or more new addresses, and then returns them to the client. The SIP redirect server can be on the same hardware as the SIP registration server and the SIP proxy server.
SIP uses the following logic functions to complete communication:
User location function: Determine the location of end users participating in communication.
User communication capability negotiation function: Determine the type and specific parameters of media terminals participating in communication.
Whether the user participates in the interactive function: Determine whether a terminal joins a specific session.
Call establishment and call control functions: including "ringing" to the called party, determining the call parameters of the calling party and the called party, call redirection, call transfer, call termination, etc.
SIP is not a vertically integrated communication system. SIP is more appropriately called a component, and it can be used as a part of other IETF protocols to construct a complete multimedia architecture.
Therefore, SIP should work with other protocols to provide complete services to end users. Although the functional components of the basic SIP protocol do not depend on these protocols. SIP itself does not provide services. However, SIP provides a foundation that can be used to implement different services.
SIP does not provide conference control services and does not suggest that conferences should be managed as such. A conference can be initiated by establishing other conference control protocols on SIP. Since SIP can manage the sessions of all parties participating in the conference, the conference can span heterogeneous networks. SIP cannot and does not intend to provide any form of network resource reservation management. Security is particularly important for the services provided. To achieve the desired degree of security, SIP provides a set of security services, including denial of service prevention, authentication services (user-to-user, agent-to-user), integrity assurance, encryption and privacy services.
Comparison of H.323 protocol and SIP protocol:
H.323 and SIP are protocols introduced by the two camps of the communications field and the Internet respectively. H.323 attempts to treat IP telephones as well-known traditional telephones, but the transmission mode has changed from circuit switching to packet switching.
The SIP protocol focuses on using IP telephony as an application on the Internet. Compared with other applications (such as FTP, E-mail, etc.), it adds signaling and QoS requirements. The services they support are basically the same, and they all use RTP as a media transmission. Agreement. But H.323 is a relatively complicated protocol.
H.323 defines special protocols for supplementary services, such as H.450.1, H.450.2 and H.450.3. SIP does not specifically define a protocol for this purpose, but it conveniently supports supplementary services or intelligent services. As long as you make full use of SIP's defined header fields, and simply extend SIP (such as adding several fields), you can implement these services.
In H.323, the call establishment process involves the third signaling message: RAS signaling channel, call signaling channel and H.245 control channel. Only through the coordination of these three channels can the H.323 call be carried out, and the call establishment time is very long. In SIP, the session request process and the media negotiation process are carried out together.
Although H.323v2 has made improvements to the call establishment process, it is still incomparable compared to SIP which only requires 1.5 loop delays to establish a call.
The H.323 call signaling channel and H.245 control channel require reliable transmission protocols. SIP is independent of low-level protocols, and generally uses unconnectable protocols such as UDP, and uses its own credit layer reliability mechanism to ensure reliable message transmission.
In short, H.323 follows the traditional telephone signaling mode. H.323 conforms to the traditional design ideas in the communication field, carries out centralized and hierarchical control, and adopts the H.323 protocol to facilitate connection with traditional telephone networks.
The SIP protocol draws on the design ideas of other Internet standards and protocols, and follows the principles of simplicity, openness, compatibility, and scalability that the Internet has always adhered to in style, which is relatively simple.
The above is the news sharing from the PASSHOT. I hope it can be inspired you. If you think today' s content is not too bad, you are welcome to share it with other friends. There are more latest Linux dumps, CCNA 200-301 dumps, CCNP Written dumps and CCIE Written dumps waiting for you.

2020.09.11 07:43 thrashzone_ua [C] - Simple stack

Hello. I'm new to C programming language. For learning purposes I'm implementing a stack data structure: https://notabug.org/thrashzone_ua/c_examples/src/mastestack.c
It works but I still have a couple of questions:
  1. am I using pointememory allocation/memory freeing in a correct way?
  2. does my memory actually get freed?
  3. I tried to get size of stack data in such way:sizeof(stack->data)/sizeof(stack->data[0])and it always returns 2, no matter how many elements are there. What's wrong with this approach?
Thank you in advance.

2020.09.10 22:42 Kinost UBC Engineering Student Design Teams: AMA

SUBC was really proactive and somehow managed to bring together a variety of UBC Engineering Design Teams together to answer questions about the Engineering student experience & design teams.
Engineering student design teams recruit beginning in September, so this is a good time to ask questions if you're interested in any of these teams as well!
SUBC: u/SUBC_UBC
“SUBC designs, builds, and races a human powered submarine at competitions in the UK and USA. Our latest project is the development of a biomimetic manta ray submarine.”
Website: https://subc.ca/
Rep 1: Seaweed
I am currently a second-year electrical engineering student hoping to specialize in electrical energy systems! I have been a member of the power electronics team at SUBC and have recently become a co-lead of the Vision Systems team. As well, I have acted as a marketing lead for an Engineers without Borders tutoring initiative. This year, I’ll be working on implementing a battery management system for the submarine, which is one of my main engineering interests. Lastly, I am a vice president of UBC Quizbowl - a competitive academic trivia team.
Ask me about anything UBC! Particularly, first year engineering, the application process for second yeadesign teams, and what it’s like to be on a design team. I’m also happy to talk power electronics, Engineers without Borders, and academic trivia :)
Rep 2: Azlin
Hey everyone! I'm currently a 3rd year Mech student on Coop for 1st semester (happy to avoid a semester of online school). I have been a member of SUBC since 1st year and have loved every moment of it. Most of my work has been in biomimetic research, design, and 3D modeling. I also hold / have held both team lead and exec roles on SUBC. Although design teams are well-known for their hands-on experience and technical skills, the most important things I’ve taken away are the soft skills. Don’t get me wrong, the tech skills and experiences are great, but I was shocked at how complicated it was to actually run/lead a team. Project management was huge learning curve for me but I’ve been able to translate what I’ve learned to other projects and initiatives. I also believe that the technical and non-technical skills I’ve gained through SUBC helped me secure a Coop job during the pandemic.
I’d also like to add that my favourite part of being on SUBC has been meeting people from other years and disciplines. You get to work and hangout with a bunch of awesome people who you otherwise wouldn’t have met.
Ask Me About: First year, Mech 2, Coop, design teams, management, networking, anything eng!
UBC AeroDesign: u/ubc_aerodesign
“UBC AeroDesign designs, builds, and flies payload-lifting, fully electric fixed-wing airplanes to compete in the international SAE Aero Design competition. In addition to a 12ft wingspan for our primary aircrafts, we also design and build smaller autonomous gliders to be released mid-flight!”
Website: http://ubcaerodesign.com/
Hello! I'm going into my third year of mechanical engineering, and I am one of the Advanced Class leads on UBC AeroDesign this year. I've been on the team since my first year, and I love every moment of it! From staying up all night in our workspace building the plane for a test flight the next morning to learning a wide variety of skills, being on this team has allowed me to grow as an engineering student while meeting some amazing people!
Ask me about: Designing/building a plane, test flights, mechanical engineering, co-op, time management, engineering in general
Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS): u/ubcuas
“We are a design team that builds drones - UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) along with mission-specific payload systems, ground control hardware and software systems. By fostering an environment for hands-on learning and innovation in unmanned aircraft development, UBC UAS strives to inspire the next generation of professionals in this growing sector.”
Website: https://www.ubcuas.com/
Rep 1: UnmannedSapien
I'm a 3rd year Electrical engineering student and the Co-Captain of UBC Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). Born and raised in Botswana (just above South Africa), I've become enchanted by the way engineering can change communities for the better! During my time at UBC UAS, I've worked on building drones capable of delivering medical supplies, consumer packages as well as assisting in search and rescue tasks. I hope to use my knowledge and experience to be part of the next big engineering revolution - The Drone Revolution! Ask me about: How to get into a design team, how to be successful in a design team, anything about drones, project management or anything else you may be interested in
Rep 2: Birb
I'm a 3rd year Mechanical engineering student and the Co-Captain of UBC Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). During my time at UBC UAS, I've worked on building quadcopters capable of achieving long flight range, high payload capacity, and high speeds, as well as designed ground control stations that extend our RF range. I hope to pursue a career in the aerospace industry! I'd be glad to answer anything about: Drones, Mechatronics, Design Teams
UBC Solar: u/plumguy1
“UBC Solar designs and builds solar-powered race cars. We make hyper-efficient electric cars designed around self-charging to explore the feasibility of solar tech in the automotive industry.”
Website: http://ubcsolar.com/
I’m a fifth year Engineering Physics student and a full time nerd. I joined Solar in second year during a co-op term and dove right into battery design without knowing anything about it. Previous background was mainly in theoretical physics, so it was a big jump but I knew I wanted to do something in the energy field. Ended up doing an 8 month internship at Tesla on the battery pack team, and came back to Solar as co-captain. I’ve gotten a lot out of the role, completely re-organizing the team format and focusing on creating new resources for my members and new recruits, while still continuing to learn new technical skills along the way! I believe that the more you put into a design team, the more you get out.
Ask me about: Anything! EngPhys, physics, solar tech, battery tech, joining a design team, hit me with your best!
UBC Rocket: u/ubcrocket
“We are UBC Rocket, an engineering design team the designs, builds, and launches rockets!”
Website: http://www.ubcrocket.com/
I am a 3.5 year Mechanical Engineering student that’s specializing in Thermofluids. This is my fourth year on UBC Rocket and I’m super excited to see what this upcoming year will bring.
Ask me about anything rocket or aerospace related, as well as anything about MECH!
UBC Orbit: u/UBC_Orbit
UBC Orbit dedicated to the innovation, design, and development of satellites
Website: https://www.ubcorbit.com/
u/andractica
I am a fourth year Computer Engineering student, and I have been on the UBC Orbit team since my first year. The knowledge and skills I have gained from being on this team are unparalleled to what I would have learned just through school. It has been a challenging but rewarding experience, and is one I would recommend to all wishing to expand on the concepts taught in school and acquire hands-on skills. Being on a design team has also made it relatively easy for me to secure my co-op positions; I have worked at Intel on the ASIC Verification team and FLIR on the Firmware team. I also have experience working as a research assistant (RA) for two different professors in ECE, and am currently working as a part-time RA alongside school. My plan post-graduation is to jump straight into industry, working in firmware/FPGA/embedded systems, and look forward to our satellite’s launch at the end of 2021!

My name is Garnet and I'm a fourth year integrated engineering student at UBC. I've been the Captain of UBC Mars Colony since May 2019 and a member since 2016. Being on a design team has given me opportunities I never dreamed of (like flying to Bremen Germany for the International Astronautical Congress). I've been focussing my degree on Mechanical and Materials engineering. I have completed two engineering co-op placements already; one at Bluewater Rigging for 8 months and then Vancouver Airport Authority (YVR) for 16 months.
Ask me about: Integrated Engineering program, IGEN capstones, Co-op, Mars, university life, meditation, or whatever comes to mind!
UBC Open Robotics: u/UBCOpenRobotics
UBC Open Robotics is a multi-disciplinary Engineering Design Team building robots for various applications. We have a piano-playing robot, a painting robot, and a service robot.
This summer we placed second internationally at the [email protected] Competition. The robot we use, called the Turtlebot 2, can successfully take a food order, help you find an empty chair, carry your bags, and follow you through a hallway!
Hey there, 4th year Engineering Physics on the team! Having been on the team since my first year, I’ve held various positions; from leading the gripper and arm design to mentoring the first years on various CAD and machining techniques.
Currently, I’m working on the administrative side of things to help keep our amazing team going as well as acting as one of the integration heads for the [email protected] project.
There are a lot of things I like about the team, but if I had to choose my favourite it would be the welcoming and innovative environment the team fosters. I have learned a lot in my last few years here and never have I felt afraid to reach out for help with technical concepts regardless of my background or experiences in engineering.
Feel free to ask me anything about Engineering Physics or my experiences on the team! :)
Ask them anything (within reason!)

2020.09.10 18:03 sikorat September 10, Holiday Farm Fire (aka McKenzi Valley Fire) Update

As the day goes on this information becomes increasingly out of date. Please check the sources linked for more up to date information, specifically the Lane County Sheriff Facebook and Lane County McKenzie Fire Webpage.
Register Guard recorded the Lane County and State officials briefing tonight.
Good morning again, shorter update today as the fire condition has not changed much overnight.
Links:
Summary Opinion:
I'm cautiously optimistic that we've seen the last of the big expansion of the fires and that over the next two days it will start to be contained. The fire is still spreading and likely will continue to spread but hopefully it is going to stop spreading toward populated areas. In forested areas the terrain is going to make it harder to fight and so something will likely be on fire until we get some rain.
Stay safe, keep your spirits up, and hopefully we're over the worst of it.
*Edited as I find errors, and significant changes I'll list.
*No FAQs today, but if there are answers, corrections, or more info contributed below I'll edit the post.
P.S.: Great set of photos from the Register Guard:
P.P.S: Video showing how firefighters can save structures during a wildfire.
P.P.P.S: Thank you to everyone who gave me awards yesterday. If you'd like to give an award today, please consider donating to our local Red Cross instead.

2020.09.10 17:21 medusalaughing85 (35F) I Believe I Have Eosinophilic Fasciitis and I Don't Know What Kind of Doctor to Consult

A few weeks ago, I noticed that the veins in my left arm looked indented, for lack of a better word. At first I thought maybe I was dehydrated or maybe I'd just never noticed before, but in the last couple of weeks, I've been feeling pain in my arm. The pain feels like my veins are being tightened and is increasing daily. Also, when I pull the skin on my arm, it looks mottled. I looked online for weeks to try to find images that look like my arm and finally found this image yesterday. It's exactly how my arm looks. Apparently, all my symptoms fit a rare disease called eosinophilic fasciitis. Not much is known about it, but it is apparently treated with prednisone. I am uninsured and I am very concerned about having to pay out of pocket for a specialist, so I'm feeling overwhelmed about where to turn and what kind of doctor to see. Also there's just so little information on this condition that I'm not sure how bad it could get if I wait too long to see someone. Does anyone have any experience with this disease? 2020.09.10 04:52 MissHailstorm Just a small vent session.

I'm really hoping I'll be able to go home and catch up on Unus Annus before it ends. I've recently gone through Hurricane Laura and while I have data on my phone, I don't have enough to binge or a strong enough connection to even hook up to my computer (this place doesn't have wifi). I even canceled my recent Camp UA shirt order just for the extra cash. While I have a place to go back to, I'm still waiting on getting power back and get back to some sort of normalcy. Stay safe, everyone.
Memento Mori 🖤
