My review of 7 rums, 4 bourbons and 4 vodkas for DIY vanilla extract making.

2020.09.18 00:32 VanillaPura My review of 7 rums, 4 bourbons and 4 vodkas for DIY vanilla extract making.

I thought this might be helpful for all of you DIY, at home vanilla extract (or essence) makers.
Vanilla Extract making is all about trial and error, and we have tried and failed a LOT in our experience and we're starting to get pretty good at getting it right.
First of all, if you are new to extract making, we recommend that you begin with multiple samples. Why? Because it takes at least 90 days to make extract and, after 90 days, you only have one extract to try. If there is something that you don't like about it, you will need to wait another 90 days to try another single version. So, start with 5 or 6 (or maybe more!) You can then try a few different beans and a few different spirits, so in 90 days you will have multiple results to compare all at once.
In short, if you are new to extract making, then your first job is to create an extract tasting experience 90 - 180 days after you begin. The more you taste at once, the more you will be able to determine what you like and for what application.
We will be looking at three different spirit categories below: 1) Rum, 2) Bourbon and, 3) Vodka. If you are interested in just one of these spirits, simply scroll down to find a summary of different brands used. We grade each spirit based on its vanilla taste after extraction and its ability to be used across multiple application.
Remember: When selecting your spirit, "Pure vanilla extract" must always be made with 35% alcohol, so you need to buy 70 proof spirits (or greater than 70 proof) to maximize vanilla bean extraction.
Rum
Kirk & Sweeney 23-Year Rum: Vanilla Extract Grade: A+
This is obviously a top shelf rum. It's pure, clean, rich and sweet. It's stored in a sherry cask, and its production yields a taste that includes hints of caramelized sugar, honey and vanilla. We start with this rum, not because we recommend that you use it. For most extracts Kirk and Sweeney is cost-prohibitive. However, a good vanilla extract will only be as good as the spirit used for extraction. We couldn't believe the rich, deep, bold flavors that came out of this extract after six months of extraction. The spirit only enhanced the natural taste of the beans, which makes this one of the best extract experiences we have ever had. Is it worth it? In some cases such as vanilla flan, vanilla creams or cream pies, a bold extract really enhances the taste. We set the bar very hight with this delightful extract. It's clearly a top shelf, A+ experience.
Captain Morgan White Rum: Vanilla Extract Grade: A-
We like white rum for two reasons: 1) It is sugar-based which means you will get a sweeter extract, and 2) It is mostly tasteless, which means that after 3-6 months of extraction, you will primarily just taste the vanilla beans. This makes white rum a great kind of alcohol to use when experimenting with different beans. Try a white rum with a Tongan vanilla bean vs. a white rum with a Madagascar vanilla bean and you will smell and taste the dramatic difference between those beans almost immediately. As such, white rum's application are almost universal. A Mexican vanilla extract made in a white rum can be used in almost any dessert, making this our favorite choice. Captain Morgan white rum specifically is a little less strong and more subtle, which results in a creamy and smooth extract.
Bacardi Superior White Rum: Vanilla Extract Grade: B+
Given our affinity to white rums, we have tried multiple versions. Bacardi is sometimes a little more expensive than Captain Morgan and we typically find that more expensive spirits yield better results. We did not see much of a difference in this case. The finished vanilla was fantastic but not clearly better than the lesser expensive Captain Morgan, so we felt that an B+ grade was appropriate. We also noticed that Bacardi had a stronger rum taste after six months of extraction. Perhaps a slight kick, or burn from its bold default taste, whereas Captain Morgan was a little softer. So, any of you rum connoisseur's out there may appreciate the bold taste of a Bacardi over a Captain.
Captain Morgan Spiced Rum: Vanilla Extract Grade: B
Spiced rum will evoke memories of holiday egg nog or pumpkin spice cookies...and that is exactly what a spiced rum vanilla extract can be used for. Banana bread, zucchini bread, ginger bread, etc. are all great applications for for a spiced-rum extract. Everyone should have at least one bottle of spiced rum vanilla extract in their cabinet just for the holiday season because it accentuates the taste of those familiar holiday flavors. If it weren't for a the holiday-only niche, we would give this rum an A+.
Bacardi Gold Rum: Vanilla Extract Grade: B
Bacardi Gold is a very unique rum. We could almost place this in the bourbon section below. It has bold, smokey, charcoal tones that are reminiscent of a scotch or whiskey, but it's sugar-based so it still errs on the side of sweetness. As such, an extract made with Bacardi Gold needs to be used for "darker" applications. We used Indonesian vanilla beans because they are inherently dark, smokey and sweet. The result was a very rich and creamy extract that could be used in brownies, chocolate cakes and chocolate frostings. Perhaps even fudge or double-chocolate-chip cookies. This is certainly a unique extract and its taste deserves an A, but its applications are limited, so we gave it a B.
Captain Morgan Dark Rum: Vanilla Extract Grade: D+
Dark rum is powerful, rich and smokey. So powerful that after six months of extraction, it was hard to notice the vanilla. There were definitely vanilla undertones, but they weren't bold or pronounced enough to overcome the rum itself. That being said, this could make the perfect vanilla extract to add a little kick to caramels, toffees or dark creams, but that's a very specific niche. Still, it may be worth a try. If you have a great experience with dark rum, please let us know and we may change the grade. Given its limited application, we felt that a D+ was the best we could do.
Blue Chair Bay Coconut Rum: Vanilla Extract Grade: B-
Like cooking and baking new treats for the first time, vanilla extract making should also be fun! We couldn't help ourselves when we made our first ever vanilla extract using coconut rum. You know what? It was DELICIOUS! Something about the coconut and the vanilla that made the experiment and the outcome absolutely a delight. So why the B- grade? Because, outside of using it for coconut cream pies or pineapple up-side-down cakes, its applications were fairly limited. If you really love coconut and you really love vanilla, then you should absolutely give this a try!
Bourbon
Woodford Reserve Straight Bourbon Whiskey: Vanilla Extract Grade: A+
As we did with the rum, we are going to start at the top. A common theme that you will see at VanillaPura is quality. When developing a quality extract, you can't overlook the spirit any more than you can overlook the importance of the vanilla bean itself. We recommend bourbon, because it is regulated by the government and is pure and consistent, more than whiskey. Woodford Reserve is a great bourbon. It has dark and smokey undertones, and since it's 51% corn based, it's sweet. A bourbon extract made with an Indonesian or Mexican bean is the perfect dark chocolate, rich extract for darker desserts. We have had several customers use bourbon-based extracts in their BBQ sauces and protein glazes to add a hint of sweetness. This particular bourbon adds sweet, spicy floral notes to its rich flavor profile.
Maker's Mark Bourbon: Vanilla Extract Grade: A
For its price, Maker's Mark is a great bourbon to begin with. It's made with a soft, red winter wheat instead of rye, which softens the bold tones found so often in most bourbons. What that means to you as an extract maker? It means that the vanilla has room to shine through and present itself within the complicated overtones of the bourbon. Simply stated, it's a perfect mixture of smokey and sweet and allows for a pure, rich bourbon extract experience. We recommend this bourbon as a great starting point for new extract makers.
Four Roses Bourbon: Vanilla Extract Grade: D
This is one of those instances where price and final quality did not match up. Four Roses is a nice bourbon and a little more expensive than Maker's Mark. But something about its bold spice and honey tone made it a difficult marriage with vanilla beans. The final taste was too complicated and hard to find an application for. While it wasn't the worst bourbon extract that we ever tried, it certainly didn't meet its mark in our experiment.
Old Crow Bourbon: Vanilla Extract Grade: F
We went there. The bottom shelf. The cheapest bourbon that we could find. We purchased the bourbon, added beautiful, high-quality Indonesian vanilla beans...and we waited six months. We presented this extract to a team of chefs at a local culinary institute to see their reactions. Our goal was to determine if the quality of the spirit really did matter in extract making. Or, is it all about the bean and only about the bean? The result was immediately apparent. This was absolutely the worst extract that we ever made. It was horrible. Perhaps good as a fire starter at a BBQ, but certainly not something that could be used in food. Avoid the bottom shelf in vanilla extract making. Spirits matter.
Vodka
Grey Goose Vodka: Vanilla Extract Grade: A+
We hear that vodka is vodka and, since it is largely tasteless, who cares what vodka you use? Well, that is mostly correct. We have tasted many different extracts with many different types of vodka and they truly are quite similar. This makes vodka the perfect kind of spirit to begin with because it's hard to mess up your extract based on the kind of vodka you use. However, we did notice a clear difference in vodkas that have been distilled 5 times and those that have not. We also noticed a difference over time in the top-shelf vodkas vs. the bottom shelf. Grey Goose (a more expensive top-shelf vodka) became even more rich and creamy with time. The vanilla bean taste became much more pronounced making it one of the most fully-rounded vanilla extracts that we have ever made. If you're going for a bold vanilla taste and an aged vanilla extract that you allow to rest for more than a year, this is the vodka you should use. Made in France with a winter wheat blend that is truly unique.
Svedka Vodka: Vanilla Extract Grade: A
While this is not a top-shelf vodka, it will provide a wonderful final product that you will be proud of. Also a winter wheat vodka like Grey Goose, but it originates from Sweden. Svedka will provide a bold vanilla extract taste that becomes smooth and creamy with time. These extracts can be used with virtually any dessert or other food applications. The price is a little less than Grey Goose and the result is almost identical.
Smirnoff Vodkas: Vanilla Extract Grade: B+
We listed Smirnoff Vodkas as plural (vodkas) as opposed to the singular. Why? Because Smirnoff is the flavor leader of all vodkas. They have multiple vodka flavors, all of which can be used for vanilla bean extraction. The grade of these vodkas is B+ not because of taste. (The taste of a regular Smirnoff vodka vanilla extract is definitely an A) It's a B+ because there are specific flavor applications available through Smirnoff that will make extract making fun, but will limit your application. They have vanilla-infused vodka that will make your extracts an even more pronounced vanilla. They have fruit vodkas that can be used to extract your vanilla beans that will all result in fun (but limited) vanilla use. Smirnoff is the fun vodka. Give it a try, make something unique and tell us about it!
Van Gogh Chocolate Infused Vodka: Vanilla Extract Grade: ??
We were just introduced to this vodka. When you read the ingredient summary of most chocolate bars, you will almost always see the inclusion of vanilla. Chocolate is accentuated with the application of vanilla. They need each other and the result is a beautiful, pure and rich chocolate taste. Chocolate vodka vanilla extract is our latest experiment. We will report on the outcome (here) as soon as we are finished!

2020.09.14 13:20 LunaLavandula odd twitter bots

hey rbi,
every once in a while i stumble upon some Twitter bots, such as https://twitter.com/kicksomedust?s=09 or https://twitter.com/gtfed_lab?s=09 (and related accts https://twitter.com/GTFEDDH1?s=09, https://twitter.com/DalerMichael?s=09, which have liked single code tweets, and https://twitter.com/jtndeuki?s=09) which seem to post regular timestamped codes.
Some of these accounts are followed by odd and seemingly fake accounts, maybe on "standby" for a code or just following accidentally.
I figure they might be some sort of odd set up to control bots or something but I'm wondering if someone would be able to explain their purpose and use to me. I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation
Edit: here's another account posting codes that has mentioned gtfed_lab before: https://twitter.com/yujiminv?s=09
Edit 2: after further digging, i may have some ideas for the gtfed-lab account (no idea on the kicksomedust one), I've found threads of people using it for "uptweets" using ifttt, zapier ms flow etc. I don't really understand what "uptweeting" is and a lot of the content is in Hindi or Indonesian - heres an example : https://threader.app/thread/1183636639563694080 Does anyone know what the point of doing this is?

2020.09.14 01:10 Sukarno2 What?!

Yesterday, at night, I was arrived at home, writing random Chinese characters with a calligraphy brush on a single printing paper just to do calligraphy, then someone came into my home, she's one of my mother's friends, then she saw me doing calligraphy and she said "You should learn Chinese (Mandarin) language if you can write Chinese characters, if you don't, then it'll become meaningless," then i responded with "No, sorry, Chinese language isn't necessary for me," then she replied my response "You must learn Chinese (Mandarin)! China is now exists and known around the world, you know what's everything that surrounds you made in? It's China! But if you go to America, then you can speak Chinese because there Whites speaking Chinese, so you should learn Chinese (Mandarin)," Then i said "No, i don't want to learn that language, but i only want to learn Chinese calligraphy right now," Then she said "Are you Chinese? If you are Chinese then you should learn Chinese (Mandarin), Chinese (Mandarin) is now the official language of China so you should learn it!" Then i said "I'm yes, Chinese, and i'm actually not speaking Min Nan language, Chinese (Mandarin) language, or other languages that are native to China because it's not what i want to speak. But two languages, Indonesian and English, is the languages that i want to speak."
and she repeated the same topic advising me to speak Chinese (Mandarin) language until the argument ends. Chinese calligraphy is what i want but the Chinese (Mandarin) language is not what i want.
Can you find the fallacy that're are in the story i wrote on here?

2020.09.11 04:00 BxbyRyxn Mobile Legends Account Hacked?

Hi guys. This is a post for any folks who are also experiencing the same problem. Heres the problem: Recently, I've been playing MLBB during lunch breaks. Each time I try to get into the game, I automatically got sent to the "Sign In" page. Initially, I thought nothing of it and carried on daily work. Until 1 day, I read through the mail and it said "Switching of API ...". At that instance, I knew someone is connected to my account. I then checked my account and realized that the Google Play account is not tied to mine. Few things have happened to me: - Hacker spent 900+ of my diamonds (probably sent it to his main account and deleted the mail for me to track/read) - Changed my flag to Indonesia - Added quite a lot of his Indonesian friends and played with them a couple of matches - Changed my description to "Don't disturb me when I'm playing or else I will go AFK" in Indonesian - Changed my street location to Indonesia/Jawa Timur - Stole my squad and removed my squad members - Continued to play my Ranked/Classic games and lost
Now, I have never sent or disclosed my account to anyone ever. Not even to my siblings FYI. I sent mail over to MLBB Customer Service in hopes to resolve my issue as soon as possible. But oh well, large companies tend to outsource their Customer Service so they are mostly not reliable. They did reply to me but it was very half-hearted. For any issues like this, I'd rather settle it myself. I tried to disconnect the Google Play account from my Moonton. However, MLBB prompted me "Dear Player, You're logging in on a new device or a new region." What this means is that MLBB does not recognize your device as the owner, as the IP Address was changed when the hacker login and played your account. Now, here is the solution to this problem: - Firstly, I tried to lower my credit score so that the hacker will not be able to play my Ranked matches (I'm quite a competitive player so I'm pissed that he is losing matches for me) (You don't have to do this if you don't want to) - Signed out of all devices (can be accessed under Profile>Account>Account Center) (Do that all the time whenever you see that button, this will make him log out and will have to key in the credentials to sign in again) - When I'm free for the day, I will boost my credit score up again to play Ranked matches. The number of matches will vary among every player. Some require up to 15 consecutive matches while some require only 3 consecutive matches. (Things to NOTE: Play the games consecutively and do not allow the hacker to play a single game. Classic matches may or may not work as I have not tried it myself. It doesn't matter if your street was set to the Indonesia area, as the IP address is recognized by the phone itself. Make sure that you are using your own phone.) - For my case, it only took 4 consecutive matches and I could log him out using the "Verification code to Moonton Email". Once I logged him out, I instantly connected my account to bound it to my Google Play. ENSURE that all 3rd party accounts are bound, or else hackers will still have a hole to get to your account. Once all that is done, your account will then be safe. However, I still receive a notification saying "Switching of API ...". These hackers are very persistent, ESPECIALLY if your account has a lot of skins and good statistics. We do not know when will they attack again. THUS, change your Moonton email and password if you can. Change all existing 3rd party account passwords as well. JUST TO BE SAFE! Goodluck to dear folks who experience the same thing as well. I will be active and I will reply to all comments who may need help as well!

Hello! I have recently fallen in love with Arcana Craves! The only thing is, theres so much I still want, I would legit go broke trying. Not to mention they're friggin CLOSED. Always the worst luck I swear. Ive got a lil [huge] list compiled of everything if you happen to want to unload any on me, I would be so grateful! Also I really would love honey craves ice cream shops or paradise. Forgot those on my wee list. If you got a full size, or one thats not on my list, just try me! It could be one I love already. Also some I already know I'm gonna love, even if my wallet doesn't, so I'd probs do those full size also! Any who, enough rambling.
Thanks for tolerating my crazy!
Strawberries Crave Black Sand: A sliver of almost-overripe strawberry with Arcana Wildcraft's Black Sand blend (the richest amber resin, black coconut, coconut husks, and smoky vetiver).
Strawberries Crave Indulgence: French vanilla, white amber, sugared vanilla beans, caramel, lady finger cookies, opium, strawberry creme, and the faintest whiff of tobacco.
Strawberries Crave Rococo: Tiny strawberries with Madagascar vanilla, Tahitian vanilla, apricot, white musk, and skin musk.

Vanilla Craves Spring: An absurdly delightful blend of two gourmand vanillas, young honeysuckle, pink bubblegum, white amber, a hint of galbanum, and a single drop of sweet mint.
Marshmallows Crush! Marshmallows with Bourbon vanilla beans, Italian bergamot, pink pepper, and French cognac absolute
Marshmallows Kick! Marshmallows drenched in rich honey and bee pollen with a hint of popcorn.
Marshmallows Pounce! Marshmallows with brown sugar, sweet peaches, and white tea.
Marshmallows Pulverize! Marshmallows with our Black Sand accord (amber resin, black coconut, coconut husks, and smoky vetiver).
Marshmallows Scatter! Dry vanilla musk and light marshmallows are showered with pale pink sakura petals, tropical orange flowers, and Tahitian tiare blossoms.
Peaches Crave Dolci: Peach gelato and pistachio gelato with 3 golden bakery cakes.
Peaches Crave Haint: The gossamer sweetness of delicate white peaches with Arcana Wildcraft's Haint (white musk, vanilla musk, Madagascar vanilla, sugarcane, and a faint trail of white pepper).
Peaches Crave Mambo: Cuban tobacco, dark vanilla, sweet rum, tonka, white musk, and sun-warmed peaches.
Peaches Crave Vanilla: Sugared peach, glorious vanilla, marshmallows, sweet milk, and sheer musk.
Blueberries Crave Snow: Blueberries smothered in brown sugar with Arcana Wildcraft's Snow accord (layers of gourmand vanilla are shot through with ice crystals, coconut sugar, and a tiny teacup of polar eggnog).
Pumpkins Crave Ganesha: Pumpkin spice and sweet pumpkin with Arcana Wildcraft's Ganesh (A large, joyous snoutful of coconut cake is snugly wrapped in honey, vanilla, Indonesian clove, green coconut, and a warm blend of spices).
Pumpkins Crave Honey: Spiced calabaza and beeswax candles smothered in acacia honey, buckwheat honey, and mead.
Pumpkins Crave Peaches: Glowing golden musk with caramelized peach, maple sugar, and softly spiced pumpkin cakes.
Pumpkins Crave Pointe Shoes: Creamy pumpkin and sweet Korintje cinnamon with Arcana Wildcraft’s Two Finger Ballet (a delicate blend of French vanilla crème, white amber, sugared vanilla beans, caramel, and the smallest dab of opium).
Pumpkins Crave Quietude: Soft vanilla, white amber, white musk, Mysore sandalwood, sweet pumpkin, and a tiny pinch of white pepper.
Pumpkins Crave Resins: Gilded amber, black amber, 10 year old labdanum absolute, black tea, and boozy golden gourd.

2020.09.09 19:34 lone_galaxy I didnt like any of the more "expencive" guitars i had a chance to play

So..... I have never actually owned an expencive guitar. All of my guitars are basicaly 200-300$ guitars i bought used and fixed\modded\upgraded to my liking. I am somewhat of a gearhead- i have been learning to play\write\record for about 3 years and i think i kinda feel comfortable with guitar now. I still suck a lot but now i know i can learn a riff, write a riff, play to a drums, and sometimes play to a track)
I have a MODERATE case of GAS and i often go somewhere to buy/sell something or just check something out. I had a chance to play some of the more expencive guitars in the stores, little pedal shops, at amp techs, or just in someones apartment when buying used gear. This guitars inclued a couple of LP juniors, a LP standart, a PRS, some mid-high tier ibanezes.
And the truth is..... I never liked a single one of them, let alone understood why are they supposed to be better then some of my budget guitars. I was woundering why that could be?
The most logical thing for me would be that since all of my guitars have been setup by me (including fretwork and all adjustments) , modded so that the only stock parts on them are the necks and bodies and are usually clean, oiled(where its needed) and have relativly fresh strings, maybe i do just treat my guitars well and all the other guys i visited dont...
that makes me kinda sad(
I mean... I think I am more of a les paul guy and when I saw thouse juniors and standarts i was like "oh shit... it seems to be a real deal". I ask the owner to try the guitar, take it in my hands and.... nothing. Sure, the wood seems to be a little bit more dense and dry but other than that i dont anything worth paying 3x the price of my guitars. I really dont know what to think about this, maybe im somewhat taken aback by small things like string height, older strings, some screws beeing a bit undone, necks beeing a bit bulkier then what im comfortabe with and a bit stickier from sweat?
i know that me beeng so comfortable with my guitars defenetly affects this, but i would hope that gibson LP standard would feel better than my indonesian LP copy....

2020.09.07 20:13 moxac777 Number of native speakers is a bad way to show how widespread a language truly is

You see it all around the internet. 'Mandarin and Spanish should be the common second language since they have more speakers than English'.
First off, they have more native speakers, as in people who use it as a first language. English still has more speakers when you count non-native speakers, since they are basically the global lingua franca at this point.
Second, it wouldn't make sense to argue in favor of making native speakers the main determinant for distribution since you're basically skipping a large majority of the speaker base that is spread out globally compared to clustered mostly in a single geographic area. Native speakers numbers are useful to determine how endangered the languages are, but obviously that does not apply to the top 20 languages spoken by 50% of the global population.
Also, here's a fun fact to support my point. If you count only native speakers, the Indonesian language isn't the most spoken language in Indonesia, that title would go to Javanese since the majority of Indonesians learn Indonesian as a second language.

2020.09.05 17:27 salehodinie University of Indonesia questions

Anda dapat menemukan teks bahasa Indonesia di akhir teks ini (Diterjemahkan dari Google)

Hello, I am not Indonesian, but I want to apply to an Indonesian university goes by the name "University of Indonesia", as suggested by the title. I want to major in computer science. The question is: How much am I expected to pay for a single semester as an international student? I already looked in the home page of the university, but the information there doesn't clarify whether it's for international students or Indonesians (citizens of the country). In the website, it says I have to pay something around 7 million rupiah which translates to something around 500$. Is that for international students?
Another question, what are the monthly living costs in Indonesia? I just want to be prepared.
Thanks in advance.
Halo,

Saya hanya ingin bersiap.
Terima kasih sebelumnya.

2020.09.04 18:34 atisaac Am I missing something with the FMT Telecaster?

tl;dr why is the price point so low?
So I've had my eye on this guitar for a while, and I had brief chance to play one in a local guitar shop last year, and I remember enjoying the way it felt and played. Played like a Les Paul-lite, which is nice, because I don't like the weight of a les paul and i don't love the body style.
Also, let's talk about the pups-- a pearly gates and a fat 59 for less than $800? On paper that sounds fantastic. It sounded great when I played one.
Is there an issue with the build quality? I know that they used to be made in Korea, and now the primary factory is Indonesia, but I can't tell you that I'd recognize a difference if i played a Korean and an Indonesian side by side. The one I played last year was an Indonesan, so that's my only point of reference.
Like, I want one. I only own single-coil guitars (i've got two strats and a tele), and I really want some humbucking tones, so it seems like a good pick. But the last thing I want to do is buy one of these and find out the build quality sucks, or something similar.
Any thoughts?

2020.09.03 17:01 Dead-Sync PS4 System Software: A Look Back

As I was going through and discarding some old Support MVP documents I had set up for the PlayStation Forums (may they rest in peace), I came across the logs I had for a system software update thread I had maintained.
As I was reading through them I actually found myself getting a kick out of reminiscing how the PS4's System Software evolved over time and thought someone else might appreciate it as well. So I spent an hour or so compiling that information into a single bullet-point list, looking at the major bi-annual updates only and specifically their notable feature additions.
As we all wait around for the PS5 and its launch information, I figured this could be a fun little stroll down memory lane as we look back together at what features came to the PS4, and when they arrived. If you didn't have a PS4 at launch, you may be surprised to learn that several core features didn't arrive until later down the road! And yes! It was surprising how absolutely critical it was to download that Day 1, 1.50 update if you had a launch PS4 with 1.01 installed. So I present to you:

PS4 System Software: A Look Back

1.50 (Launch Day) November 13th, 2013
1.70 April 29th, 2014
2.00 (Masamune) October 28th, 2014
2.50 (Yukimura) March 25th, 2015
3.00 (Kenshin) September 30th, 2015
3.50 (Musashi) April 6th, 2016
4.00 (Shingen) September 13th, 2016
4.50 (Sasuke) March 9th, 2017
5.00 (Nobunaga) October 3rd, 2017
5.50 (Keiji) March 8th, 2018
6.00 September 13th, 2018
No major user-facing features, although it is possible this update laid the foundation for Online ID change support, which was introduced formally in April 2019.
6.50 March 7th, 2019
7.00 October 8th, 2019
7.50 April 17th, 2020
No major user-facing features

I suppose it will be worth mentioning that the PS4's system software updates are not completely done yet. 8.00 will be coming in the near future, allegedly with some adjustments to how Parties & Messages work, support for authenticator apps for 2SV, and some other things. I imagine many of this being done to give the PS4 parity with the PS5.
In retrospect, I have to give credit to Sony. They stuck to a bi-annual update schedule, and the support for the product has been consistent. If you've made it this far, you must have enjoyed this post. If so, here are some other random tidbits I found notable that didn't fit into the rest of the post:

2020.09.01 21:37 Xefjord A bit over a year ago, I started a project to offer survival Anki decks for every known living language. I now support 36 languages across 46 courses. Which one would you like to see next?

Heyo, Xefjord here! Some of you may remember me and some of you may not know me at all, I haven't been crazy active in these forums recently, but I wanted to share an important milestone with everyone regarding a project I have undertaken to help share and encourage free language education!
I run a project called Xefjord's Complete Language Series and it is a modest website I made that has the goal of offering survival anki decks for every single known living language. That is a pretty ambitious goal and I am no where even close to done, but over the course of the past year I have made substantial progress in creating 46 courses for 36 different languages (with my latest one: Norwegian Bokmal, released yesterday).
I don't sell anything, do ads, paywall, or even accept donations. I started this project because I wanted to increase access to decent quality Anki cards for all languages, as well as give a starting point for learners that is standardized and comparable no matter if you are learning a big language like Japanese or a small language like Maltese or Hmong. It is just 200 basic words and phrases that can help you get by without English, as well as a limited number of advanced cards that will provide a superior template for expanding your study into the intermediate level and beyond. Even still it has taken me over 250 hours to manually digitize these, and I am proud of the progress overall.
The languages I currently offer include: Arabic, Cantonese, Chinook Jargon, French, Georgian, German, Greek, Hakka, Hmong (x2), Indonesian, Irish Gaelic, Icelandic, Italian, Japanese, Kam, Korean, Latvian, Lidepla, Maltese, Mandarin (x3), Mongolian, Norwegian, Okinawan, Puxian, Russian, Scottish Gaelic, Serbian (x2), Shanghainese, Spanish (x2), Swedish, Tagalog, Taishanese (x2), Taiwanese (x3), Turkish, Vietnamese (x3), and Zhuang
For the wonderful community here at the LanguageLearning subreddit and in other language related communities, I would love to hear what languages you would like to see me create next and I have created a poll where you can vote for up to 8 of the languages I already have translations for: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeRBvXZvot5xjUsKaoAMrGCnX5fwbhV9CvK1Muz_GCz_MUv7Q/viewform?usp=sf_link
I would also love for more people to get involved. If you speak a language I don't currently have on the website, or that is even already translated (but not fully released) I would love for you to contact me on Discord or Reddit and we can perhaps work towards making/polishing the course for your language too :)

2020.09.01 01:43 snoopdawg_313 Crafting!

Hey! I'm very new to reddit, just got here today. I'm a 1st level knife throwing bounty hunter Drow fighter named Dryaalis. I have not played a single game of dnd and I have not played an rpg tabletop game in my life but I have my first dnd game this wednesday I have a list of questions for experienced player's & experienced dm's to answer. (I'm 13 btw)
  1. I want to make a special Indonesian curved dagger called a karambit. Does me being 1st level prevent me from crafting this weapon?
  2. Where can I find adamantine? Is it apart of loot that the DM gives us or do we buy it? (or both?) & if I can buy it what is the price?
  3. Can I create/craft my own metal? If so, how much will it cost?
  4. Can I craft a glove that attracts adamantine? If not, can a wizard, sorcerer, or warlock enchant my karambit to always attract to my hand (willingly of course).
  5. Is my knife throwing Drow fighter good enough, or is he overpowered? str: 17 +4 dex: 18 +4 con: 12 +1 int: 14 +2 wis: 4 -3 char: 16 +3 Is he even capable if killing a dragonborn? I feel like he's too week. I want him to be threatening enough for a Drow. He's chaotic good btw.
  6. I want to do a lot of actions in combat and I want to do a lot of attacks but my attacks are so...unrealistic in dnd imo. I'm thinking like movie combat. Sometimes I want to slash an NPC's face with a dagger (I dream abt dnd, don't bash me). Or I sometimes want to throw daggers at throats.
  7. Is slitting an NPc's throat or stabbing them in the throat an instant kill or...?
  8. Pretty please! Can you guys make my dnd 5e karambit? I want it to be slashing ofc. And if you don't want to, could you walk me through it kindly and easily. I would rather step by step. I'm slow.
  9. How long does it take to craft a karambit? Each rarity of crafting a weapon. Btw, by the time to craft the weapon, I mean in-game and out of game.

2020.08.29 12:14 A_Scar Us Indonesians are thaught that we punched the Dutch away at our struggle of independence. In reality, we suffered military defeat after defeat and not a single successful operation was carried out during the war. Redditors, how has your country exaggerated your historical past?

2020.08.28 01:28 hhendery My (crazy) theory of SM's plans for NCT

NCT has been pretty stagnant in terms of their original concept. They haven't debuted new members, formed new units, and even abolished Dream's graduation system.
It's been like this for such a long while I actually started to think that SM had probably given up on NCT's original concept and decided to leave it as it is.
But today I was trying to make some sense out of SM's decisions for NCT with a friend and she brought up the fact Lee Soo Man knew it would take years for NCT system to be established and even gave estimate years that would take them to achieve specific milestones.
Talking about amount of years made me remember that almost all their current members have 7 year contracts with the same or close starting dates, and currently only have around 3 years left. This combined with LSM's prediction made me come to a realization:
What if SM is STILL dead-set on the NCT's system and failure has never been an option, despite the shortcomings such as THAAD and Covid19? Could it be possible that their plan is to release a 'batch' of units and members they know they can handle at the same time and leave it like that, then once the contracts of the members of said batch end, NCT will get "revamped" and the NCT system mechanisms will be brought back and ran at full throttle?
It's possible that once their contract ends:
  1. Many members would no longer be interested in promoting in a group and choose to leave (or become an ""inactive"" member) to pursue their own solo activities
  2. The interest and fanaticism for the original group would start to wane
  3. Their fanbase would also grow up, be more mature and understanding of their solo aspirations or whatever they choose to do, and maybe even outgrow them.
Therefore creating the perfect opportunity and environment to add new members, create new units and configurations without facing much backlash and opposition (that would be expected if they pulled it for example right now) Thus keeping their "infinite and limitless" brand.
Of course, this theory has its holes. But it also kinda makes sense since at this slow pace they can also wait for other countries' markets to improve and develop platforms where their idols can promote (because I'm imagining a kpop group working in my country and I can't think of a single way they could promote and thrive here lol). Once they consider a country's music market profittable and viable enough, they would slowly integrate themselves into it through NCT, kinda like how they're currently doing with the indonesian music market.
Do you guys think this is plausible? (It's late over here and I might just be spewing random nonsense but it was fun making this up and I really wanted to get it out of my head lmao)
tl;dr: Rather than stressing over rumored units and additions to the currently active batch, or wondering if SM might have dropped the ball like they did with SuJu because of the lack of changes, maybe it's more of a "All of that will happen, but only when its past the current batch's prime"

2020.08.24 12:40 Suddenlygosopale2018 Nearly two years on and everything still does not feel real to me

It's all very complicated but I will try to be concise here. I'm 29M, as of 29/9 2018 orphan and one living grandparent I barely know. My single mother passed away suddenly, no illness that would have indicated such an outcome. She passed alone, and was found two to three days later by someone helping with the many animals. She had no partner or friends and her two children, myself and my older sister were both over 3000km away in opposite directions. My sister was called by the police and she then called me. I forget alot of things but I remember 10minutes before that call which seemed as likely to me as winning the lottery. I lived with my mother, we helped each other, you can say codependent, we got along well. I was in Indonesia with my sixth month old daughter and my partner who is Indonesian. We were visiting her parents home and I was fixing the roof rafter in the kitchen while I was there. I enjoy diy. My mother never got to meet her first grandchild, that thought was devastating after the phone call. Things would get worse though, after a hurried return home, an acreage which felt very much like our family homestead. Which when I departed three weeks earlier had some 50 odd different pets, every one raised by hand by me. All gone, taken by animal protection. 23 pure breed ragdoll cats (we had been breeding as a hobby for 15years) three goats, and two dozen chickens. I mention this because I have always been a animal lover, I raised over a hundred cats from day old kittens, and I have buried many pets that passed. Even the chickens had names and I gave burials to them when they passed. All gone, I got to see most of the cats again but I had to adopt them and was only allowed two. I concidered breaking into the shelter to reclaim the others but I had a breakdown and went into psychiatric hospital. The chickens and goats I never saw again.
Eventually there was an autopsy report which we got to see, suspected suicide. Only based off history of depression no planning or sorting out affairs. No will. Oh my dad committed suicide when I was less than one, so two for two.... In the end, lost the acreage, sold for bottom dollar, I have my two cats and a shipping container of belonging. Haven't seen my partner or daughter in 9 months thanks to Covid, I am stuck in Australia and they are in Indonesia. Restrictions yay. Had three psychiatric hospital stays each over a month , from being broken down no life attempts, I don't get to do that. Growing up without a father makes it too hard to do that to my daughter.
So I can't seem to move on, it seriously feels like if I went home, mum would be there with all the pets. Its like one big ball of grief which is inseparable and so must be pushed aside and ignored. But it's too big to ignore, I feel poisoned by it, every memory tainted.
I don't know what I hope to get from this post, I don't know. Thank you for your time reading this mess. Jeremy

2020.08.23 16:14 Key_Brother A proposal for the canon timeline for Code Lyoko

the only thing remembered for Code Lyoko was the theme song. so last Saturday i thought after hearing the theme song. you know what im gonna watch it boy was i impressed with series 96 episodes: one 47 minute prequel and 95 episodes of gradual build up and satisfying conclusion after finshing it early hours of sunday mourning im gonna miss this show
so after hearing about Code Lyoko: Evolution and how badly it was received by the fans and it ended on a cliffhanger because the company went bankrupt and now its considered non canon.
i was sad there no answers to how Lyoko came to be build or what happened to Aletias mother those were major plot holes while it did not bring down the shows greatness it would have been nice if they were answered. so when i heard about Code Lyoko: Chronicles. and i read their plot summaries and i can say i am happy everything from origins of Lyoko and situation with Aletia mother has been resolved
so on to the proposal for the definitive timeline for Code Lyoko:
the timeline goes as follows:
---->: means the next event in the timeline
Code Lyoko: Xana awakens ----> Code Lyoko: seasons 1-4 (timeline put together by Cyclops ignore the Code Lyoko: Evolution part though https://www.codelyoko.ftimeline/chrono_fanmade.cl ) ----> Code Lyoko: Chronicles books 1-4---> (next event is my personal deduction based on subtext on episodes and what the characters have been through takes place 12-15 years after ending of Code Lyoko: Chronicles book 4)
12-15 years after the ending of Code Lyoko Chronicles book 4:
Jeremy: now a leading professor and programmer in the world of Quantum computing. has with the help of now good Xana accelerated the development of Quantum computing and now has won noble prizes. is now married to Aelita
Aeltia: is now a successful DJ and also assistant to Jeremy in his career and married to him
Odd: now film a director
Yumi: now married to Ulrich. current career unknown either gymnastics teacher or champion for france in gymnastics. or helps Ulrich in his martial arts teaching business
Ulrich: now a martial arts teacher specialising in Indonesian martial arts like Pencak Silat and similar ones. is also current or former martial art champion in Pencak Silat for france. married to Yumi
William: doing his own thing
Sissi: now a actress gets hired from time to time in Odds films
Herb: a robotics engineer
Nicholas: doing his own thing but does fish as a hobby to pass time
Milly and Tamiya: now professional journalists working for a local paris newspaper have aims to international journalists
everyone else at Kadic academy : may their lives be happy and fulfilling in whatever they do
state of relationships:
Jeremy and Aletia: now married. Jeremy uses the money from his Nobel prize and developments in quantum computing to fix up Aletias childhood home the Hermitage and now Jeremy and Aletia move into together with their two children one boy and a girl and Aletias mother who now has recovered her memory
Yumi and Ulrich: now married with one child a girl and another child on the way (a boy). they live in Paris nearby Jeremy and Aletia
all the Jeremy , Aletia, Yumi, Ulrich, and Odd are still friends and hangout together often at the Hermitage. are still on good terms with Sissi and William. often go together see Odds films or a flim if Sissi is in it
Odd: still single as ever
William: single
Sissi, Herb, Nicholas: still friends Sissi is kinder to them now but still can be demanding to help her acting sometimes
i say the characters present history are like as i have stated above is well with everything they have been through i would be surprised if they were not life long friends/married now
as for Code Lyoko: Evolution......we don`t talk about it......... thats an alternative timeline at best where it split from the ending of episode 95. i suppose doing all the return to the pasts not only resets the primary timeline but may cause a split in the timeline due enough return to the pasts are done due to the "many worlds" interpretation in quantum physics

well thats my proposal on the definitive timeline of Code Lyoko what do you guys think?. comment below
